therapie LEIPZIG 2023 Congress Programme: Interdisciplinary Further Education for Healthcare Professionals and Physicians

The therapie LEIPZIG congress (4 to 6 May 2023) is the largest interdisciplinary further education event for healthcare professionals in German-speaking Europe. The comprehensive and multifaceted congress programme reflects the full and diverse spectrum of healthcare fields. Evidence-based lectures, practically-oriented seminars and interactive workshops on the latest scientific research, current forms of treatment and training methods cover all aspects of day-to-day work in the therapy professions.

At therapie LEIPZIG, physio- and occupational therapists, speech and sports therapists, trainers and exercise instructors for rehabilitation and health sports as well as massage therapists and medical lifeguards not only have the opportunity to learn about innovative products for use in their daily work but can also benefit from professional further education offering a perspective beyond their own field. New congress formats alternate with proven highlights such as "Physio meets OP" where a live stream of two operations from St. Elisabeth Hospital in Leipzig will be shown. The international running magazine RUNNER'S WORLD is joining the congress to hold a seminar on health-oriented running and running therapy.

Wide Range of Events for Physio- and Occupational Therapists

Alongside numerous free papers, associations such as PHYSIO DEUTSCHLAND and the Physiotherapy Society (VPT) as well as partner publishers such as the Richard Pflaum Verlag and "modernes lernen" have once again compiled a comprehensive programme for physio- and occupational therapists.

Topics on the agenda in the field of physiotherapy range from electrotherapy and targeted exercises for foot misalignments to myofascial chain dynamics. A total of eight papers will be presented on the subjects of neuroathletic and neurocentric training. For the first time, the ARTZT Institute is contributing three seminars. Among other topics, the seminar speakers will consider how neurocentric exercises and training can be integrated into therapy, explore sustainable balance training methods and look into exercises for children experiencing difficulties in school.

Ottobock Global Academy is also returning in 2023 with its own contribution to the congress. Its three-hour seminar focuses on the question of how modern prosthetics can be combined with targeted therapy to help patients regain as much independence as possible.

The German Society for Neurotraumatology and Clinical Neurorehabilitation (DGNKN) and the German Society for Neurorehabilitation (DGNR) are addressing the latest findings and current developments in neurorehabilitation in their three-day seminar series. Topics under discussion include mobility rehabilitation following a stroke, post-COVID fatigue and fatigability, pain management in neurorehabilitation as well as the newest foundational research and the establishment of new methods of therapy and customised therapy approaches for Parkinson's disease.

Specialised Further Education for Physicians

Specialised further education for physicians at therapie LEIPZIG 2023 revolves around the fields of sports medicine, physical and rehabilitative medicine and holistic medical approaches.

These certified further education opportunities are made possible by our strong partners including the SSÄB (Saxon Association of Sports Physicians), organiser of the 2023 Mitteldeutsche Sportmedizintage (Central German sports medicine conference). The range of educational topics includes sports gynaecology and the use of contraceptives, modern sports biomechanics and aspects of sports medicine relating to the treatment of senior athletes and para-athletes. The Saxony Association for Prevention and Rehabilitation of Cardiovascular Diseases (LVS-PR) and the Central German Regional Association for Physical and Rehabilitative Medicine (MLV-PRM) will be discussing updates to therapeutic approaches for Long COVID patients, the use of PneumoKur as a secondary preventative measure and minimally invasive thorax surgery.

This year, particular attention will be paid to the topic of stress. A dedicated series of holistic medical seminars focuses on the stress state from the perspectives of naturopathy, psychosomatics and systemic hypnosis therapy. Models of stress development and management will be laid out, including the psychosocial factors that play a particular role in these processes.

Rehabilitation and Sports Therapy From Pilates to Spinal Gymnastics

Therapists, trainers and exercise instructors should come to the trade fair and congress dressed for sports and bring their own yoga mats as there will once again be plenty of action. In addition to the opportunity to test and try out products and activities in the demonstration area, numerous exercise programmes will be demonstrated in the Rehabilitation and Sports Therapy area.

The Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia state branches of the National Paralympic Committee Germany (DBS) are preparing a wide range of events for visitors. Participants can learn about a health programme for rebuilding the immune system after infectious diseases, engage in abdominal training exercises by activating the psoas major muscle and the diaphragm and discover how to create sports classes that are attractive and effective for heterogeneous groups.

The courses offered by IG Rehasport are no less energetic. Participants are invited to join in the action at ten workshops including strength and kettle ball training, spinal gymnastics and rehabilitation yoga.

The German Gymnastics Association (DGymB) is taking part for the first time in the therapie LEIPZIG congress and providing information about its relaxation coach training programme, games for preventing falls among the elderly and sustainable whole-body training.

Management Topics for Clinics and Practices

Hospital reform 2025: What needs to change in Germany's clinics, and what are the resultant opportunities and risks for physiotherapy departments? These questions are the focus of PHYSIO DEUTSCHLAND's Management Forum which is aimed at physiotherapists managing inpatient facilities. Sustainability management in clinical care is on the agenda of the DVKC's (German Association for Hospital Controlling) specialist seminar which sheds light on the elements that contribute to sustainable care, the management of sustainability activities and examples of sustainability goals and indicators.

Richard Pflaum Verlag's new congress format, Physio BIZZ, is especially aimed at therapists who operate their own businesses. There are five seminars focusing on topics such as psychological hacks for a happy work life, methods for promoting one's own practice on the market, and five golden rules for winning over young therapists.

Additional seminars revolving primarily around therapeutic practice aim to discuss selected tools for team building, how to recognise strengths and weaknesses when working in teams, ways to run an economically successful business and practice succession and sale.

New Ticket Structure and Certification

Depending on the type of congress session, participants can earn two to four further education points. For physicians, sports therapists, trainers and exercise instructors, information about certification and further education points for sessions and special events can be found directly in the congress programme.

The event organiser has simplified the registration process. Visitors can simply purchase day tickets or full tickets and freely choose which programme items to attend while at the congress.
